It’s a pretty old school house so we figured it needed an old school feel. House built in 1938. Here’s a picture of the front of it w the old owner apparently chilling on the front porch.
Really been a side project since we’re redoing 3 bathrooms right now, had to get the roof redone and the gutters and most of the plumbing and electrical. Still, think it’s coming together ok

Overall,165.
The paint is too monochromatic. You should have done a different color on the surface of the built ins to break it up. (I mean the “shelf” that the TV is on.) You probably should have gone with white high gloss for the mill work on the built ins too. And you shouldn’t have done the French doors the same color as the surrounding walls.
The desk is OK, but you need better cord management.
You need to get a more modern desk chair or go with something like an old school tufted leather chair with exposed nailheads on wheels. Something like this is only ~$1,000 https://www.howellfurniture.com/item/prestige-desk-chair/1696464731 And why do you need the plastic under the chair? Wheels work on wood, last time I checked. (BTW, those things sometimes block UVs and can result in discoloring of the wood compared to surrounding areas.)
The floors need to be buffed/refinished. I’d consider a darker stain, but that’s just me. A big Persian rug would be 180, but they are $$$
The open light fixture is lame and 3x too big for that room. It’s not a fucking farmhouse. Something with aged silver finishing (i.e., patina) would be good.

All Cr advice. Went cheap on chair bc I’m already like 15k over budget on a 50k Reno and trying to Reduce costs for now.
Floors are getting redone soon, although just downstairs so it’ll prob be close to same color to match upstairs. Mat is glass, got it after noticing some marks on the floor.
The light fixture isn’t going anywhere. Wife spent like 1500 on it and it matches sconces in living room it’s connected to, agree it’s yuge tho.

Doing the best you can with what you’ve got.
As you can see from the current market, investing a ton in decorating is mostly flame. The best you can do is buy and hold a well-made house and pay it off in full. Hope that by the time you can sell it and downsize to a retirement house that you will be selling in a hot market.
If you move in the next 5 years, everything you did might be out of style and the furniture you bought might not work with your new place.
