they are more interested in "alts" and less btc -- maybe partially due to the fact that as a big hedge fund, they can procure cheesecake terms for ICOs

their best trades aren't on coinbase, and they aren't really available to the average joe shmoe with 150k or whatever to invest. imagine a 50% ICO discount. the theme of 2018 is that these deals are increasingly becoming available only to big players. but yeah, it makes no sense for someone to invest in a bitcoin fund or whatever, unless they have issues with custody

Right, everyone knows that, but that is regime dependent. Doesn't work when people get wise to the ICO scam and stop buying up coins from insiders at 3-20x right after the ICO. Maybe that's next year, maybe it's 5 years from now.
